Nothing Technology Limited (Nothing) is a London-based consumer electronics manufacturer founded in 2020 by Carl Pei and Akis Evangelidis. The company develops smartphones, audio products and software experiences, distinguished by a minimalist aesthetic, transparent design and the Glyph Interface on the rear of its mobile phone range. Nothing aims to “Make tech fun again”.
Company History
Nothing was founded 29 October 2020 by Carl Pei, previously the co-founder of OnePlus, and Akis Evangelidis, after raising $7 million from investors such as Tony Fadell (Apple), Casey Neistat (YouTuber), Steve Huffman (Reddit) and Kevin Lin (Twitch).
The company was announced by Carl in January 2021, with the company's mission to “remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future”. Shortly after, Nothing acquired the Essential brand before partnering with Teenage Engineering, a Swedish electronics company known for product design.
Ear (1) was Nothing's first product launched in July 2021 before Nothing expanded into the smartphone market with Phone (1) in March 2022. Both of these products established the company’s identity, built on transparency and minimalism. Phone (1) introduced the Glyph Interface, a number of LED segments on the rear panel, something Nothing has now become infamous for, and has evolved over time with different models featuring a differing Glyph design. Phone (3) changed the interface in the biggest way since 2021, with the Glyph Matrix - a 25 x 25 pixel display on the rear. Nothing opened its first permanent retail location, Nothing Store Soho in December 2022. Four years later, they opened their sencond store, this time outside of the UK, Nothing Store Bengaluru, in February 2026.
In 2023, alongside the main Nothing brand, the company introduced CMF by Nothing, a sub-brand focused on accessible, design-driven consumer products. CMF launched with three products: CMF Watch Pro, CMF Buds Pro, and CMF Power 65W GaN.
Nothing has continued to expand and refine its product line till the present day, releasing a number of models in the Ear Series, additional phone models and Headphone (1), its first pair of over-ear headphones.[1])
