The Glyph Developer Kit (GDK) is an official software development kit (SDK) released by Nothing to enable third-party developers to integrate their apps and services with the Glyph Interface and Glyph Matrix. The kit empowers developers to craft custom LED animations and notifications across supported Nothing phones.
Release & Availability
The GDK was officially released in February 2024 and was made accessible via GitHub. It initially supported the Phone (1) and Phone (2) models, offering control over the devices’ 12 and 33 LED light zones respectively.[1] It has since been updated to support Phone (2a) series.
The second version of the GDK was released 1 July 2025 and was designed for Phone (3)’s Glyph Matrix. This allowed developers to create Glyph Toys and integrate their apps with the Matrix for notifications, games, animations and more. In September 2025, Nothing released their first party platform, Playground, which featured a way for users to discover and download community developed Glyph Toys.[2]
For all models prior to Phone (3), developers must register for an API key to unlock the usage of the GDK in production apps, without the need for developer mode. As of Phone (3), this key is no longer required.[1,2]
Use Cases
The GDK has primarily gained excitement among developers within the Nothing community, eager to experiment and create Glyph-enabled apps and projects. Some notable examples include:
- Glyph Museum: A way to discover, create and display art and animations on the Glyph Matrix.[3]
- Simone: A memory game inspired by the classic “Simon”, using the Glyph lights as the interactive interface.[4]
- Better Nothing Glyph Composer (BNGC): A website to create audio-reactive LED Glyph compositions using your own custom audio.[5]
- Custom Nothing Glyph Tools: A desktop tool to create Glyph tones with Audacity.[6]
