Nothing X is a proprietary companion app developed by Nothing, designed to allow users to manage and customise functionality of the company’s ecosystem of devices, including earbuds and smartwatches. It serves as a unified interface, offering device control, firmware updates, health and fitness tracking, and more.
The app is available on both Android via Google Play and iOS via the App Store. It can also be installed by scanning a QR code provided on product packaging.
History & Development
Nothing X originated from the original Companion app for the Ear (1). Rebranded and re-released as Nothing X around 3 November 2022, coinciding with the launch of Ear (stick), this overhaul brought more device support, an updated UI, streamlined pairing and an equaliser interface.[1]
In mid-2025, the app evolved further to consolidate both audio and wearable device management. With the release of the CMF Watch 3 Pro, Nothing X became the all-in-one app, replacing the standalone CMF Watch app. Existing CMF Watch users had the opportunity to migrate their data to Nothing X in 2025. This transition allowed users to manage both their audio and wearables in a single app.
The app underwent a UI overhaul, presenting a cleaner and faster experience aligned with Nothing OS aesthetics.
Features
Device personalisation & firmware management
Users can connect, configure and update their earbuds and CMF smartwatches. The app includes features such as active noise cancellation (on/off/transparency & level), gesture customisation, low-latency mode, dual connection, battery indicators & widgets, “find my buds” and firmware updates.
Health & Fitness tracking
Since the CMF Watch migration, Nothing X has comprehensive tracking for workouts, heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen and daily activity. It can record GPS based running routes and syncs to platforms such as Strava, Apple Health and Google Health Connect.
Desktop app
Nothing hasn't released an official version of Nothing X for desktop, a highly requested feature for users of their audio products. To combat this challenge, Thomas (RapidZapper), a well known community member and moderator, developed a website titled ear (web), which allows for granular control of your Nothing and CMF by Nothing audio products through a web browser.[2]
