Nothing Community Dots was an NFT-based community membership initiative by Nothing. Launched on the Polygon blockchain, it aimed to deepen engagement with early supporters, such as crowdfunding investors and pre-order customers and provide a rewards mechanism for community members; through unique digital collectables that unlocked exclusive perks and access.

The program featured two tiers:

• Black Dots: Initially airdropped to equity crowdfunding investors and pre-order customers of the Phone (1).
• Red Dots: A higher-tier NFT. Merge 10 Black Dots to create one Red Dot.

Dot holders were invited to exclusive events, such as the Phone (1) launch event in London and events in-store.^[1]

Announced on 5 July 2022, the first Black Dot NFTs were distributed starting 7 July.^[2]

Aimed to establish a Web3-enabled rewards system, these NFTs offered perks such as early access, invitations to launch events and token-gated community channels. Nothing positioned the program toward a more meaningful blockchain engagement, arriving at a time when NFTs were trendy and divisive.

The response among fans and investors was mixed, with many harsh responses, some claiming the program was an “embarrassment to the company” and that Nothing has “clearly lost the plot”.^[3] Some users commented that NFTs are tough to understand and not very user-friendly. Still, the program remained strong until mid-2024.^[4]

Although there is a lack of evidence online, in August 2022, community members observed an “attack” on the Black Dot program, where Black Dots were being sold for as little as $10 despite their market value being around $60. Nothing overcame this by creating a new version of the Black Dot and redistributing them to affected users.^[5]

On 16 August 2024, Nothing officially announced the closure of the Community Dots program.

Final rewards offered:

• Black Dot holders were eligible for a discount voucher valid on nothing.tech for global users, valued at $80/€60/£50, or Flipkart for holders in India valued at INR 4000.
• Red Dot holders were entitled to claim one Phone (2a) Plus in grey or black, and one audio product - Ear or Ear (a) - in a colour of their choice.^[4]

Red Dot holders were distributed a further NFT which could be exchanged for the Ear product of choice on nothing.tech for a limited time. As of 2026, four people still hold this NFT .^[6]

No further perks or benefits would be supported or available in the future. The dots-only Discord server channel closed, the webpage for Community Dots and the dedicated support email were also permanently closed.
