Nothing Community

Since the company's founding in 2020, Nothing has positioned community engagement as a central part of its identity, frequently involving its users in product surveys, beta testing, co-creation projects, feedback programs and public events. Nothing embraces its global network of users, enthusiasts, creators and developers and highlights creatives in the form of YouTube videos showcasing community projects, and the Playground, where community developers can share their Glyph Matrix Toys. Community participation has influenced both hardware and software development, contributing to the company’s public image as a design-led, community-driven technology brand.

Nothing has a dedicated Community Team in charge of Community Platforms and initiatives.

Community philosophy & role

From its inception, Nothing described its goal as creating a more open and engaging relationship between themselves and their users. Founder and CEO, Carl Pei, frequently referenced community involvement as a key value for the company and had always planned to create the Community Board Observer role; an elected community member who sits in on Nothing's quarterly board meetings to report on community sentiment, as a bridge between the company and its community.[1]

Some community-focused initiatives include having direct feedback loops between users and staff, public software testing, showcasing and rewarding community-created content, collaborative product design projects, and in-person social events.

Community platforms

Nothing created two official Community Platforms , the nothing.community and the Discord server.

There are also a number of Unofficial / Community-Maintained Platforms created by fans of the brand to serve different audiences. Nothing also engages with users on X, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit.

Community crowdfunding

Nothing has hosted several rounds of Community Crowdfunding, including an initial campaign before launching its first product, the Ear (1) in 2021. Crowdfunding allows regular members of the public to invest directly in the company in exchange for a number of shares, and often some ;merchandise too.[2]

Community Board Observer

The Community Board Observer program allows an annually elected community member to sit in on Nothing's internal company board meetings, communicating community sentiment and concerns directly to the board, and sharing outcomes and responses back to the community. Each year, the Community Board Observer is opened to all community members, who can apply to volunteer for the position. Shortlisted candidates are then put forward for community voting.[3]

Community review program

The Community Review Program allows community members to register their interest in testing and reviewing both pre-release and production products. Participants receive temporary review units and are encouraged to publish honest reviews, photography and feedback. Those who receive devices before release must sign a non-disclosure agreement and adhere to an embargo.[4] A photo from the Phone (3a) Community Edition drop in Bengaluru. Community Edition devices

The Community Edition project is one of Nothing's most visible co-creation initiatives. Under the program, community members can submit design ideas for a special community edition device. Winners then work directly with Nothing staff to help make the design become a reality. Two Community Edition devices have been released as of May 2026, the Phone (2a) Community Edition and the Phone (3a) Community Edition.[5]

Community events & meetups

Nothing frequently organises community-focused events in various key cities around the world. Types of events held have included product launch parties, regional product drop events, photo walks and general social events. These events offer community members the chance to meet staff and likeminded individuals, as well as get hands on with devices and sometimes receive merchandise.[6]

Community Dots NFT program

The Community Dots NFT program was a blockchain-based membership and rewards initiative launched by Nothing in 2021. Black Dots were distributed to community members who'd participated in Community Crowdfunding and as awards for those who produced high quality projects or went the extra mile to help other users. Black Dots gave token holders access to exclusive events and launch invitations as well as private community channels. The program ended in August 2024.[7]
