Ear (stick)

The Nothing Ear (stick) is the second product in Nothing's true wireless audio range and the company's first true wireless earbuds with a half in-ear design. It introduced a silicone-free fit and a cylindrical charging case with a twisting mechanism, while retaining the transparent design language established by Ear (1).

Ear (stick) was first unveiled at London Fashion Week SS23 in September 2022 as part of a collaboration with designer Chet Lo. The presentation also incorporated the Phone (1)'s Glyph Interface into translucent clothing and accessories.[1]

Ear (stick)'s model number is B157 and Pokémon codename is Bellossom.

Availability & Pricing

Nothing began sales of Ear (stick) on 4 November 2022, with the product priced at £99 / $99 / €119. The product was sold in more than 40 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, United States and European markets.[2]

Regional availability followed shortly afterwards. In Japan, Ear (stick) was priced at ¥16,800, with nationwide sales beginning on 10 November 2022 after a limited pre-sale from 29 October.[3] In Indonesia, Ear (stick) was priced at Rp1,699,000, with retail availability beginning on 17 November 2022 through Erajaya Group.[4]

Hardware

Ear (stick) uses a half in-ear design without silicone ear tips. Each earbud contains a 12.6 mm dynamic driver and measures 29.8 mm × 18.8 mm × 18.4 mm, weighing 4.4 g. The cylindrical charging case measures 87.1 mm × 29.8 mm × 29.8 mm and weighs 46.3 g.[5] The earbuds are rated IPX4 for resistance to water splashes. Ear (stick) provides up to 7 hours of listening time on a single charge and up to 29 hours with the charging case. A 10-minute charge provides up to 9 hours of listening time.[5]

Ear (stick) does not support active noise cancellation. Its half in-ear design allows ambient sound to remain audible during use.[5]

In 2024, a hardware revision of Ear (stick) appeared in circulation, moving the protective mesh from the surface of the earbud into a recessed position within the body. Nothing did not publicly announce the change, and promotional materials were not immediately updated, resulting in different physical revisions appearing in circulation.[6,7]

Controls

Ear (stick) introduced pressure-based pinch controls to Nothing's true wireless earbuds, replacing the capacitive touch controls used by Ear (1). Users can press the stems to perform functions such as play or pause playback, skip or return to previous tracks, adjust volume and activate the voice assistant. The available gestures can be customised through Nothing X.

Connectivity

Ear (stick) can be connected to and customised through Nothing X. The earbuds support Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC and AAC audio codecs. The companion app provides customisation for pinch gestures, equaliser settings, firmware updates and the Find My Earbuds feature.[2]

Ear (stick) was originally supported through the Ear (1) Companion App, which was later transitioned to Nothing X. On compatible Android devices, Ear (stick) also supports Google Fast Pair.[8]
